You can help the dogs on Skid Row.

We all can.

WHAT’S GOING ON

What’s happening to dogs on Skid Row is unacceptable. Locked in cages, beaten, and left to suffer — all while the City of Los Angeles and the Mayor’s office turn a blind eye. The dismantling of the animal cruelty task force and ongoing neglect from city leadership are causing irreparable harm. These dogs deserve protection, not abandonment.

We stand with Rebecca Corry and @standupforpitsfoundation in demanding accountability and immediate action. Silence is complicity — and we refuse to stay silent.

Subject: Demand immediate action on Skid Row dog cruelty — the city must act now

Dear [Mayor Bass / Director Ramirez / Councilmember X],

My name is [Your Name / Your Organization], and I am writing to demand immediate, meaningful action regarding the ongoing and documented cruelty toward dogs in Skid Row. These animals are being locked in cages, abused, tortured, and left to die — and it is your duty to protect them.

We call on you to:

  1. Restore and fully fund an animal cruelty task force with authority to prosecute and enforce in zones like Skid Row.

  2. Deploy mobile veterinary + rescue units in Skid Row regularly.

  3. Commit to transparent reporting — publish monthly cruelty statistics, response times, and case outcomes (especially in vulnerable zones).

  4. Hold city leadership & Animal Services accountable for failure to respond to documented cases.

  5. Prioritize prosecutions of individuals found guilty of extreme animal cruelty in these neighborhoods.

We stand with Rebecca Corry and StandUpForPits in demanding justice. We will follow up in one week to check on your plans. The eyes of the public are watching — failure is not an option.

Thank you for your prompt response.

Sincerely,
[Your Name / Organization]

Tips & Best Practices

  • Attach evidence when possible (photos, video, news links) — it’s harder to ignore when you present a documented case.

  • Short & firm is better than long — your ask should be clear and actionable.

  • Follow up consistently (every 7–14 days). Ask: “Have you taken these steps now?”

  • If responses are weak or delayed, escalate: send to other officials, publicize non-responses, engage media, and mobilize supporters to flood their offices.

  • Use public comment in City Council meetings — show up in person or submit written comment to bring attention in a public forum.

What to Say & Do at In-Person City Meetings

Speaking up during public comment at Los Angeles City Council or Neighborhood Council meetings makes a real impact — these statements go on public record and can’t be ignored. You’ll usually get 1–2 minutes, so keep it focused, emotional, and direct.

Here’s how to make it count:

1. Sign up early.

  • Visit lacity.org/councilmeetings or your District 14 page to find meeting dates and agendas.

  • Show up early, fill out a speaker card, and note the agenda item (or “general public comment”).

2. Be clear and concise.
You can say something like:

“My name is [Your Name], and I’m here on behalf of the dogs of Skid Row.
Dogs in Skid Row are being locked in cages, beaten, and dying without help. The City dismantled its animal cruelty task force, and LA Animal Services isn’t responding to calls.
I’m asking this Council and Mayor Bass to restore and fund the cruelty task force, send mobile rescue teams into Skid Row, and release public reports on enforcement.
Every day you delay, animals are suffering. We demand action now.”

3. Bring evidence or visuals.

  • Hold up printed news articles, screenshots, or photos (avoid graphic content).

  • Bring signs that read things like “Restore the Cruelty Task Force” or “Dogs Are Dying — Do Your Job.”

4. Tag and document.

  • Record your statement and post it to social media tagging:
    @MayorOfLA @LAAnimalServices @CD14LosAngeles @StandUpForPitsFoundation
    Use hashtags like #SaveSkidRowDogs #GoodBoyFoundation #AnimalsDeserveBetter

5. Build presence.

  • Encourage others to come with you — the more speakers, the greater the impact.

  • If you can’t attend in person, submit written public comment through the City Clerk’s website or your district office.
